Lake Wylie’s MentorShip Program:

At Lake Wylie Elementary, the MentorShip Program is one of our best ways to be intentional in advocating for our children and families. Through this program, we seek to insure that our students who need the most support and encouragement are matched up with caring adult mentors from the community.   Our adult mentors, have an opportunity to create intentional relationships with students in need.

Why do we at Lake Wylie place such a high priority on the MentorShip program?

At Lake Wylie we place a high priority on the MentorShip Program because we know that students who have advocates have greater outcomes for both achievement and deportment.  We also acknowledge that while many of our students face challenges at school, home and in the community these challenges are more likely to be overcome when each child has an advocate.

Where do I meet with my mentee?

Our mentors visit students in the school.  By spending time at Lake Wylie, these adult mentors show their investment in student learning and building relationships. Our mentors are able to build trust by meeting students where they are and build rapport by intentional caring conversations.

When do I meet with my mentee?

Our mentors visit their mentees once a week.  Mentors can come for breakfast, lunch or during physical activity time.
