In support of students in the seven Steele Creek area elementary schools, Pleasant Hill, Steele Creek,  Mt. Olive and Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Churches joined together to provide several reading book to each of 295 children.   These books will be given to rising 2nd, 3rd , and 4th grade students who will participate in the “Read to Achieve” summer program to strengthen their reading ability.   The teachers and staff at the seven elementary schools are very appreciative of our support .   One literacy facilitator wrote:  “Thank you so much for reaching out to help our students!  So many students in our population do not have books at home so this is a HUGE deal for us!!”

The “Read to Achieve” program is a state-wide initiative to help students gain reading proficiency.   There will be a summer program to help students who are having difficulty in reading and comprehension.    In our area, it will be held at Nations Ford Elementary School from June 20th to July 28th.
